Marching to Regional

SVC has had a busy winter, preparing for Regional Contest, holding our annual Pizza Sale, welcoming new members, and learning fun new music! We’ve been blessed with a mild winter, only missing two rehearsals this year (compared to what seemed like a million-and-a-half last winter!) and we are hoping that all our hard work is keeping things in Central Ohio heated up. We seem to be holding winter at bay! Fingers crossed!

Did you know that there is a new Girl Scout Badge that you can help a local Troop earn? The Young Women in Harmony badge is a new Girl Scout program and we have helped our first Troop earn it! The girls from Troop 2260 from Westerville, Ohio (including Mia, daughter of SVC member Carolyn Konicki) came to our rehearsal. They had an education session with Amy Laycock, Dominique Parsons and Tenacious Quartet and learned about Barbershop Harmony, which included learning a tag! After their class, they sang a song of their own for us as well as the tag they learned, and then we sang for them. They also helped out with our physical warm-ups before rehearsal started, leading us in a little “Whip and Nae Nae” action!  Everyone had a ton of fun and they earned the adorable YWIH Badge! We are hoping to help out more Girl Scouts with this project, and you should too! Check out the info on the Sweet Adelines webpage for details on what they need for the badge. It’s a fantastic outreach opportunity and a great way to spread the love of Barbershop Harmony!

In addition to having fun with the kids, we are also working hard preparing for Regional Contest in April. We’ve had coaching sessions with our amazing coaches, Betty Clipman and Joe Connelly and now, we are heading into our pre-contest retreat with Betty. We’ve learned a super-fun new song and some adorable choreography to go along with it.  We look forward to premiering it for you at Regional in April!
